7 Ways To Breeze Through Menopause With Finesse!

Millions of women can experience fatigue, depression, mood swings, hot flashes, increased abdominal fat or decreased libido as they shift into the menopause phase of life.

Menopause is the transition that marks the end of a woman’s fertility, which typically occurs around the late 40’s or early 50’s. Some women go through it when they have a hysterectomy. This natural hormonal change is not something a woman should be afraid of, as it is simply a transition.

This physical change can be difficult for some to handle as symptoms may include vaginal dryness, decreased sexual drive, brittle nails, lackluster hair, as well as susceptibility to diseases like breast cancer, osteoporosis and hypertension, which may cause stress and anxiety. Many other women breeze through menopause.

Here is a list of ways that help a woman not only survive menopause, but handle menopause with finesse!

  1. Eat a well­-balanced diet. (I’m sixty and I have never had any menopause symptoms, even though I had a hysterectomy in my forties. I think it is because I am a vegetarian and have eaten mostly organic food for the last 27 years.) I feel diet is a major factor in moving through this transition easily.

Have an eating plan high in organic fresh fruits, vegetables and other plant based foods, which include: fresh parsley, celery, cucumber and garlic. I also make sure to include: walnuts; freshly ground flaxseeds; whole, sprouted seeds; whole, sprouted grains (like oats, barley, rye and teff); unsulfured, unsweetened dried apricots; unsulfured, unsweetened dried dates and prunes; and hummus (many varieties). I also avoid soy products of all varieties.

 A simple traditional menopause recipe is a delicious black bean broth –

Recipe: Soak one cup of organic black beans in pure non­-chlorinated, non-fluoridated water for 18 hours (to make them more digestible.) Pour off the water and cook the black beans and 1/2 teaspoon of unrefined sea salt in 5 cups of high quality water for one hour. Drink 1/2 cup of the liquid from this soup mixture 1/2 hour before meals for relief of hot flashes. (a)

  1. Drink plenty of high quality water and avoid chlorinated and fluoridated tap water. Water is a key nutrient to our health. Just because we are drinking a liquid, doesn’t mean it is hydrating. Many illnesses are a result of dehydration.

    What I do is divide my weight in half and drink that many ounces of water a day, between my meals. I drink a whole glass of water first thing in the morning, before I ever get out of bed. I also drink about 18 ounces of water at least an hour before a meal and again 2 hours after a meal.

  1. It is imperative to have adequate amounts of Vitamin D, as well as other vitamins. Vitamin D is paramount to optimum health and we need more of it as we age. You can have your physician check these in a blood test.

  1. Acupuncture and Homeopathy have both been shown to have very positive effects on menopause.

  1. Exercise is good for the body, as it help release toxins and other harmful elements from the body. It helps promote proper blood circulation and joint stability. Exercise is especially needed during menopause to help combat the diseases associated with menopause.

  1. Common weight gain, which can be a result of perimenopause (the time right before menopause) is often misdiagnosed and is one of the first signs of hormonal imbalance. Keeping your weight normal can be easy. I found that the best way to keep your weight under control is to eat more fresh vegetables and to cut out most foods that contain sugar and refined carbohydrates. Limiting alcohol intake is also very helpful.

  1. Relax! Menopause is not an emergency situation, and with the proper knowledge you will be able to breeze through it successfully. Never forget to pamper yourself. If you start to feel down, have a relaxing massage or spend some time in nature. Surround yourself with friends who are going through this same process or ones who’ve already experienced it.

    These are the best ways to help relieve stress, which is felt especially when you are adjusting to this new wonderful chapter of your life. Sharing your experiences of menopause with friends or family can be very comforting. You may find yourself laughing at the whole situation, which is very healing in itself.

With the right knowledge and correct attitude, a woman can successfully go through menopause with finesse!
